[성배영]1 Samuel 24 “I’m No Rebel” David 다윗과 Saul 사울

오늘 영어성경은 사무엘상 24절에 있는 내용을 같이 살펴보아요. 아래의 본문은 8절부터에요.

사무엘상 24장에서는 사울왕 Saul과 다윗 David의 이야기가 나옵니다.

사울이 다윗을 죽이려고 쫓아왔어요. 사울은 황무지의 굴 깊은 곳에 자기를 따르는 사람들과 함께 숨어 있었고 사울이 그 굴을 찾아 들어와 다윗에겐 사울을 죽일 수 있는 기회가 왔죠. 하지만 다윗은 몰래 사울의 옷자락만 베고 돌아왔어요. 아무 죄 없는 자신을 죽이려고 그렇게 쫓아온 사울을.. 죽일 수 있는 그 절호의 기회에 다윗은 대체 왜 그랬을까요-_-?

 

Then David stood at the mouth of the cave and called to Saul, 
“My master! My king!” Saul looked back. 
David fell to his knees and bowed in reverence. 
He called out, “Why do you listen to those who say ‘David is out to get you’? 
This very day with your very own eyes you have seen that just now in the cave 

God put you in my hands. 
My men wanted me to kill you, but I wouldn’t do it. 

I told them that I won’t lift a finger against my master — he’s God’s anointed. 

Oh, my father, look at this, look at this piece that I cut from your robe. 
I could have cut you — killed you! — but I didn’t. Look at the evidence! I’m not against you.
I’m no rebel. I haven’t sinned against you, and yet you’re hunting me down to kill me. 
Let’s decide which of us is in the right. God may avenge me, but it is in his hands, mine.
An old proverb says, ‘Evil deeds come from evil people.’ So be assured that my hand won’t touch you. 
“What does the king of Israel think he’s doing? Who do you think you’re chasing? A dead dog? A flea? 
God is our judge. He’ll decide who is right. Oh, that he would look down right now, decide right now
— and set me free of you!” When David had finished saying all this, Saul said, 
“Can this be the voice of my son David?” and he wept in loud sobs. 
“You’re the one in the right, not me,” he continued. 
“You’ve heaped good on me; I’ve dumped evil on you. And now you’ve done it again
— treated me generously. God put me in your hands and you didn’t kill me. Why? 
When a man meets his enemy, does he send him down the road with a blessing? 
May God give you a bonus of blessings for what you’ve done for me today! 
I know now beyond doubt that you will rule as king. 
The kingdom of Israel is already in your grasp! 
Now promise me under God that you will not kill off my family or wipe my name off the books.” 
David promised Saul. Then Saul went home and David and his men went up to their wilderness refuge.

다윗은 하나님의 사람이었어요. 달랐던 거죠. 하나님의 기름부음을 받은 anointed 자를 해치는 것은 하나님께서 금하시는 것이었기에..

하나님의 사람이 어떤 행동을 해야 하는지 다윗은 분명히 알았던 것 같아요. 

굴에서 나간 사울에게 다윗이 사울을 My master, My king라 부르며 멋진 멘트를 날렸죠.

God is our judge. He'll decide who is right. 

 

그런데 사울이 갑자기 제 정신이 들었는지, 다윗을 아들 My son이라 부르며 다윗의 의로움을 증거해 줍니다.

You've heaped good on me; I’ve dumped evil on you. And now you’ve done it again—treated me generously. May God give you a bonus of blessings for what you've done for me today!

사울이 heaped on과 dumped on을 대조적으로 써가며 
다윗이 자기에게 heaped on(good)하고 자기는 다윗에게 dumped(evil) on 했다고 말하고 있죠.

다윗의 용서? 그 관대함? 때문이었을까요. 사울이 바른 소리를 잘 했군요.

앞서 다윗이 I'm no rebel.이라고 했지요.

#rebel : a person who rise in opposition or armed resistance against an established government or ruler

 

#robe 요 단어는 또 성경에서 계속 나오죠.

- a long glowing outer garment

  especially: one used for ceremonial occasions or as a symbol of office or profession

←그림과 같은 요런 옷, 목욕 가운 같은 옷을 말하고 있어요.

#garment도 성경에 자주 나오니까 알아두시면 좋을 것 같네요.

- a garment is a piece of clothing, clothes/ clothing의 격식 있는 표현

 

 

 

참 다윗은 존경할 수밖에 없는 하나님의 사람이네요.

역시 어릴 적에도 그 골리앗 Goliath 앞에서 "I am come at you in the name of God-of-the-Angel-Armies."하고 멋짐을 풍기더니 나이가 들어 위기의 상황에서도 참 다른 모습을 보여주는군요. 

언제 저런 멋진 말을 해낼 수 있을까요?
